Florida VPK (Free Voluntary Pre-K)

Every Florida 4-year-old gets a free pre-kindergarten year — 540 instructional hours during the school year or 300 in summer — at hundreds of private, church and independent providers in Miami-Dade.

Voluntary Prekindergarten is the most under-used funding source in Miami-Dade because families assume it only applies to public school. It does not: most church preschools and private school PK classes are VPK providers.

Registration runs through the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe. The family receives a Certificate of Eligibility and brings it to the provider.

VPK pairs naturally with the K-12 scholarship: a child who starts in a school's VPK class can continue into kindergarten on the $8,745 Private School Scholarship.

How to stack it

Florida VPK (Free Voluntary Pre-K) can usually be combined with school-based tuition assistance and at least one other source on this site. Complete the funding check and an advisor will map the full stack for your child.
